Teacher Lesson Resources
One way teachers can build global competencies is by engaging their students in collaborative projects with a global reach. The best way to connect your students to the world, without leaving the classroom, is through technology!
Below are some of the fantastic resources I have discovered, which intentionally foster intercultural communication and global citizenship. Your class can work on a joint project with a classroom in India, or be electronic pen pals with students in Germany! All of these opportunities can be great starting points to get your students globally connected.

U.N.'s Sustainable Development Goals Class Research Assignment:
Teacher's Notes: I developed this lesson to introduce my Advanced Placement Environmental Science students to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals outlined by the U.N. I created the slides using Google Slides, with the title page linked to an overview video that I showed them to begin. Then, on the 3rd slide I put the instructions for the assignment, and created 1-2 slides for every SDG. On each SDG slide, I typed the name of 1-2 students (depending on the size of the class) and that was there assigned SDG to research. I shared the entire presentation with them and gave them a week and a half to complete the work. I could log in and see their progress, make comments, and prod them along. Then, when the assignment was due, I showed it to the entire class and had each student describe their slide, click on their links etc. If I could do it again, I would have probably given each SDG 2 slides, which makes it longer, but more room for visual content. Overall- the lesson was to make them aware of the SDG's and many of them had never heard of them prior to this assignment.(editable Power Point version on the right)

School Culture Project:
Teacher's Notes: This lesson was created to teach my student the varying layers of 'culture', while having them analyze and critically think about our own school's culture. Ultimately, it was their final exam grade for my class, since they already took the state End of Course Exam! Plus, they were helping me collect visual artifacts to bring and share with students in Indonesia! So they were well aware of that when shared some of their crazy videos! I introduced the assignment with the title and solicited answers to "What is our school culture?", before showing the slide with the definition of culture. When I introduced the image of the "Iceberg of Culture" I also handed out a class set for them to see up close. Overall- I was really impressed by their final presentations and they were very creative in highlighting the deeper components of our school culture. Check out some examples below.
